Grace: 9 Month Update

She’s 9 months old and I’m loving every minute of it. She’s learned a lot and grew so much from since she was born. She’s hitting milestones faster than I can keep up. I often wonder when she learned it.

She’s how big!?

She’s still wearing the same size clothes as last month which is 12-18 months for leggings and 9-12 for pants(they make them more baggy). She has really thick thighs so those leggings are hit and miss so I don’t bother with them most of the time. In bodysuits and dresses shes wearing 12 months.

She hasn’t gotten taller and the doctor was shocked to find out how much protein she was eating (or lack there of). Now she’s on a higher protein diet and so I’ll check in with that to let you know how much more she’s grown.

Length: 71 cm (28 inches)
Weight: 8.7 kg (19.2 lbs) (Lost weight or scale at home isn’t accurate. Doctor wasn’t concerned.)
Diaper Size: 3/4 but not sure. We’ve started cloth diapers!!!
Clothes: 12 and 18 months

Milestones

She’s still improving on the things she learned last month, but I haven’t noticed any milestones worth noting. I’m not sure when, but she has learned to pull herself up and she’s more confident in moving from sitting position to getting on her knees and reaching for far away toys with one hand. It’s hard to get her to crawl or walk because she doesn’t have much interest in toys. She’s content just playing with her hands and making her own games with whatever is around her.

She shows much more interest when reading books together and she waits for my pause to turn the page. If I’m reading to slow she’ll make babbling noises then turn the page herself! She even has a favourite book!

Sleeping

We are still co-sleeping with Grace and she LOVES IT! She’s sleeping well. She sleeps 12 hours a night and takes two one-hour naps a day. During her naps she wakes up at the 30 minute mark and fusses because she’s alone in the bedroom. I just come in and calm her for a few minutes and she’ll sleep for the remainder of the hour. I know some type of sleep training can correct this, but it’s working for us for now and I’m focusing on making sure she’s getting enough protein and taking better care of myself. Eventually I do plan on sleep training her to sleep in her own bed/crib if it’s in the cards for us. If not I’m fine with that too.

Eating

She’s just started to eat chunkier purees and I’m glad! She’s still drinking 475-700 ml (16-24 oz) of formula a day and has been introduced to the following foods:

  • Apples
  • Pears
  • Bananas
  • Peaches
  • Avocado
  • Peas
  • Green Beans
  • Sweet Potato
  • Butternut Squash
  • Rice Cereal (Brown Rice)
  • Carrots
  • Prunes
  • Turkey
  • Chicken
  • Quinoa
  • Yellow Split Peas
  • Brown Lentils
  • Gerber Puffs
